小野さんがおっしゃっているのはそういうことではなく、"to the last"は、
その上の"to the present"に対応しており、"last"の次に"generation"を
補って解釈すべきだということでしょう。それに"last"に「古びた」
というニュアンスは無いと思うんですが。
